Haida Stories Listen & Learn

About Haida Stories
Haida stories tell of a time when the animals were people like us: the people of the air, the people of the water, the four-legged people. Humans were simply the two-legged people. The others were our brothers and sisters. They taught us how to live and be true haada-laas (good people). We survived because of their teachings. In these virtual storytelling videos, Kung Jaadee will share her telling of famous Haida legends about Raven (Yaahl), the creator of the world, and his universal teachings. Enjoy her telling of “Raven Brings the Water,” Raven’s Brings the Light” and “Raven's Feast,” along with some traditional songs, drumming and a show-and-tell of her regalia.

Virtual Activity: Haida Stories
Videos will be available from February 12 to February 28, 2021.

About the Book
After the Raven (Yaahl) had finished creating the world; he realized that he was lonely. So he invited the whole world to join him in Haida Gwaii for the greatest feast you could ever imagine. At the end of the Feast each person, from all 4 sacred directions, was given a special gift that would change their lives forever!

About Kung Jaadee
Born on Haida Gwaii, Kung Jaadee (Roberta Kennedy) is a professional storyteller, educator and published author belonging to the X̱aayda (Haida),  xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) First Nations. Her Haida name, Kung Jaadee, means ‘Moon Woman’ and was presented to her at her great uncle’s memorial feast by her cousin Crystal Robinson. Over the past 27 years, Kung Jaadee has performed traditional Haida legends teaching morals about sharing, helping others and loving herself, while also sharing vivid personal stories about her clan's survival of the smallpox epidemic, the history of her people and the racism she has endured over time. She has performed at hundreds of events, schools and Aboriginal celebrations across Canada.  She is a published author of  the popular children's books, Raven's Feast and Gifts from Raven (selected as a Local BC Books to Read), as well as curriculum books, “Haida Nation: Indigenous Communities in Canada” and “We Are Home." Her stories have also been published in several anthologies, magazines and online publications. For more information about Kung Jaadee, visit www.pebblestarartists.com/kung-jaadee.

After DiANNA left a successful, yet passionless, career as a mechanical engineer, a chance encounter with a little red ball changed her life forever. It wasn’t until she quit her job and turned her passions into purpose that she started reinventing her own definitions of success. Thus was born her TedxTalk, “Have the Balls to Follow your Dreams,” with the The Red Ball Movement Show stemming from this, asking the question: "What's your red ball?" She has toured both nationally and internationally to audiences of over 3,000, completing her first nine-country world Red Ball Movement tour in June 2019.

DiANNA’s work as a transformational entertainer, inspirational speaker, creative educator, humanitarian, freestyle dancer and expressive arts therapist, allows for audiences around the world to question their passions, actualize self-love, and practice discovery.
