Applications are invited for a Casual Lead Shift Supervisor in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the Lead Shift Supervisor is responsible for scheduling, supervising, and evaluating all aquatic employees. This role assists the Recreation Supervisor and the Recreation Programmer in planning, organizing, promoting, and evaluating the outdoor aquatic program. The Casual assignment starts on March 9, 2026, and ends October 2, 2026.
The Lead Shift Supervisor will assist with the preparation, organization and conduct the Wet Interview and Skills Assessment and the In–Service Training. The Wet Interview and Skills Assessment will be held on either February 21 or 22, 2026. Shift Supervisor In–Service training is March 30 to April 3, 2026 (time to be determined), and Lifeguard/Instructor In-Service training is April 7 to 10, 2026 (time to be determined). Applicants must be available for all these dates.
RATE OF PAY: $34.68 - $35.60 per hour (2024 CUPE rates).
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends).
Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation.
Valid National Lifeguard Pool Certification, Lifesavings Swim for Life Instructor, BCRP Pool Operator I and II Certification, Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner Certification and a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia are required. Lifesaving Trainer, First Aid Instructor/Examiner are desired. Having worked at least one full summer at Al Anderson Memorial Pool and having extensive experience in lifeguarding, instruction and staff supervision is preferred. Courses or training in the following are also desired: Leadership or Recreation, Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training, or a Recreation Leadership Diploma.
