Applications are invited for a Regular Full-time Plan Checker/Inspector to work in the Development Services Department.  Under the direction of the Manager of Building and Licensing, the Plan Checker/Inspector is responsible for reviewing plans accompanying applications for a variety of construction projects to ensure structures comply with the B.C. Building Code and City bylaws and related statures and coordinating the processing of applications through City departments.  The Plan Checker/Inspector is also responsible for assisting with the inspection of building projects during construction, alterations or repair to ensure compliance with approved plans, established by-laws, acts, codes, standards and regulations.  

RATE OF PAY:           Pay Grade 28:  $40.51 to $43.03   

HOURS OF WORK:   35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Building Code, City by-laws, policies and regulations, including Workers’ Compensation Legislation.  A Level 3 Building Official Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of B.C. and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence are required.  Graduation from a program at an Institute of Technology in building technology and a minimum of 2 years experience as a Plan Examiner in a city/municipality in the Province of B.C. with a primary focus on Part 3 buildings is desired. Applications are invited for the Regular Full-Time position of Recreation Programmer (Youth Leader) to work in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.  Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the planning, developing, promoting and monitoring of recreational, social, sports and cultural programs for various age groups.  The incumbent will also be responsible for organizing and implementing a variety of social, cultural and recreational activities for Youth. 

RATE OF PAY:          $29.85 to $31.22 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:  *35 hours per week (Monday to Sunday);
                                   Tuesday                                      11:00 a.m. -    7:00 p.m.
                                   Wednesday, Thursday, Friday     1:00 p.m.  -   9:00 p.m.
                                   Saturday                                       2:00 p.m. -  10:00 p.m.

*These hours will vary depending on programming and special events.

Applicants should have strong leadership, organizational, communication, and customer service skills. A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License and a valid Emergency First Aid with AED Certificate is required.  A Diploma or Certificate in Recreation from a recognized Community College and knowledge of the principles, philosophy and objectives of municipal services are also required.  Experience working with a broad age range of youth in a recreational setting or a combination of training and experience is desired.  Additionally, completion of High Five training, Foodsafe Certification, experience working with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter), maintaining webpages and Adobe Design Suite and a valid Class 4 B.C. Applications are invited for Regular Part-Time position of Clerk Typist 3 in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department. The Clerk Typist 3 is responsible for clerical and public relations duties. The work includes reception tasks and liaison with instructors, user groups, community organizations and the public. 

RATE OF PAY:           Pay Grade 12:  $26.90 - $27.95

HOURS OF WORK:    22 hours per week.  

Starting assignment:   5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Wednesday to Friday

                                    7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday

The choice of our comprehensive benefits package or a percentage (16% of regular earnings) in lieu of benefits is included.

The successful candidate will have Grade 12 and previous experience in the recreation field, with recreation programs, registration and software programs such as Microsoft Office and registration and facility booking software systems.  A valid Emergency First Aid Certificate is required.  Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description
