Langley City Launches New Five-Year Rolling Strategic Plan

Date

For Immediate Release

Langley City, BC: Langley City Council formally adopted the 2023-2028 Rolling Strategic Plan that will guide decision making over the next five years.

“We’re excited to share this new approach to serving our community,” said Langley City Mayor Nathan Pachal. “With the pandemic behind us and Surrey Langley SkyTrain coming soon, this plan lays a clear path toward achieving our Langley City: Nexus of Community Vision, and on behalf of Council, I encourage everyone to read it and get involved as we continue implementing.”

The new plan builds on and replaces the previous plan that expired during the COVID-19 pandemic and interim plan developed to support the City’s COVID response. It responds to post pandemic challenges and recommits to action steps required to continue building the four cornerstones of the Langley City: Nexus of Community Vision – Community, Connected, Experiences and Integration.

Core areas of focus include:

  • Cultivate an Inclusive Community
  • Provide Reliable Municipal Infrastructure
  • Support a Vibrant Economy
  • Integrate a Holistic Approach to Community Safety
  • Build Climate Resiliency
  • Strengthen Communication and Public Engagement
  • Achieve Organizational Excellence

The strategic plan includes small but important adjustments to the City’s values and mission statement, focusing on education, inclusion, and equity, to ensure Langley City remains “The Place to Be” for current and future generations.

The plan also incorporates new goals for advancing Truth and Reconciliation with First Nations; delivering a coordinated and compassionate response to challenges of homelessness, housing affordability, and community safety for everyone; and attracting and retaining the best and brightest as Langley City grows its staffing base to meet the needs of a growing community.
