#24-47 - Manager of Communications and Public Engagement, Regular Full-time

The City of Langley is seeking a Manager of Communications and Public Engagement, an opportunity to join a progressive and well-led organization at an exciting time. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Manager of Communications and Public Engagement leads a team of communication professionals in delivering public engagement, digital communications, internal communications, media relations, issues management, crisis communications and marketing campaigns. This position supports effective City decision-making by ensuring appropriate public engagement strategies and techniques are deployed based on the City’s vision and strategic direction.

The Manager of Communications and Public Engagement is highly organized and politically astute, with a proven ability to manage multiple emerging priorities with concurrent projects and deadlines, effectively engaging internal and external stakeholders, and with a high capacity for adaptability in a dynamic and vibrant environment. This position will strategically identify target audiences, potential issues, budget constraints, competing organizational priorities, appropriate communications tools and techniques for each project and overall operational responsibilities. The Manager of Communications and Public Engagement leads and motivates staff to perform at an elevated level to deliver on a wide variety of projects and service mandates. Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building abilities and project management skills are integral to success in this role.  

A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or another directly related discipline and progressive experience in a senior communications role within a municipal or similar environment, including supervisory experience, is desirable. Accreditation in public relations with the IABC or CPRS and familiarity with the IAP2 method of public engagement is an asset. #24-48 - Health and Safety Advisor, Regular Full-time

The City has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join the Human Resources team in the Administration Department. Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources and building on the City’s recent Municipal Safety Award, the Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for the development and implementation of the City’s Health and Safety Management Program including but not limited to disability management and return to work, injuries, incident investigations, ensuring proper assessments and safe work procedures are in place, WorksafeBC claims, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees and safety training across the organization. 

The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for ensuring Municipal, Provincial, and Federal regulatory compliance and in helping to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. The Health and Safety Advisor has a strong understanding of the working relationship with WorkSafeBC, compliance with regulatory requirements and the continued development of a positive safety culture at the City. A high level of organization, excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to self-direct are essential for success in this role. 

A diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety with several years of related work experience in a unionized environment is desired. Designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional would be an asset. A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required. #24-49 - Director of Financial Services, Regular Full-time

The City has an exciting career opportunity for a seasoned financial professional to assume the role of Director of Financial Services. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Financial Services is an integral member of the Senior Management Team and leads the team responsible for Finance and Information Services for the City.

The Director of Financial Services, acting as the statutory Financial Officer under the Community Charter, is responsible for delivering financial strength and stability through sound financial planning, ensuring accurate records of financial affairs are prepared and maintained, and exercises control and supervision of all financial affairs of the City. The broad scope of this role includes managing the City’s financial services functions in the areas of accounting, financial reporting and forecasting, financial planning, operations, asset management, revenue collection, property taxation, payroll, purchasing, regular reporting and remittances and information technology. The role also provides oversight of the Langley Christmas Bureau Committee. Key to this role will be setting priorities for the Department and ensuring the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Senior Management Team and Council are kept well-informed.

The Director will lead a team and collaborate closely with other departments to align resources to City priorities and strategic goals. Strong leadership, communications, interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary to engage and inspire the team and deliver results. Decisiveness, political astuteness and the ability to build and maintain close working relations with Council, staff and other stakeholders will be important in leading this Department to its next level. 

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and CPA designation with a minimum of seven to ten years of progressive and/or senior finance and accounting experience. Robust knowledge and practice of municipal financial administrative with demonstrated experience in implementing best practice financial processes, financial information systems, accounting, financial planning, budgeting and financial reporting are required. Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered. A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required. An annual salary range of $174,787 – $190,994 complemented by an excellent benefits package and a supportive and innovative working environment are offered with this Exempt role.
