The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (“FOIPPA”) is a provincial statute, which sets rights and responsibilities concerning information which is collected or controlled the City of Langley. Key principles are:
- Right to Access: You can access records held by the City, including your personal information
- Rights to Privacy: Your personal information is protected from unauthorized disclosure.
What Information Can You Request?
You can request any records in the City's custody or control such as documents, maps, photos, papers, and letters.
Some access to information may be restricted due to privacy concerns or legal restrictions, such as agendas and minutes of closed Council Meetings. However, most information held by the City is available to the public and can be requested, for example:
- Answers about departmental operations
- Bylaws, publications, and policies & procedures

How do I make a request?
- Informal Request: Start by asking the relevant department if the information is available. View our Department Contact List.
- Formal Request: If the information is not routinely available you will need to submit a formal written request using the Freedom of Information Request Form. *Do not complete the form in your internet browser.
