Applications are invited for Engineering Workers for Temporary Full-Time and potentially Casual assignments after the Temporary Full-Time assignment ends in the Engineering Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. These assignments are anticipated to begin from approximately February 2023 and end at the beginning to end of October 2023; subject to operational requirements the assignments may be extended. The successful candidates will perform a variety of manual duties for boulevard maintenance including mowing and trimming grass and weeds, keeping the boulevard free of weeds, invasive plants, litter, loose materials including leaves or debris, and keeping the boulevards in a tidy condition.
RATE OF PAY: $30.25 per hour (2021 C.U.P.E. rate)
HOURS OF WORK: Temporary Full-Time hours are 40 hours per week
Casual hours are up to 40 hours per week
Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid vacation and become eligible for benefits after 6 months of continuous employment. Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all benefits.
The successful candidates will have Grade 12 plus experience in performing boulevard maintenance including skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment and the stamina and coordination to perform manual work outdoors in all weather conditions. Under the direction of the Superintendent, Engineering Operations Division, the Electrician will have primary responsibility for performing a variety of electrical installations, maintenance and repair tasks on municipal property for electrical fixtures, traffic signals, and streetlights, control systems, telemetry and motors.
