The City of Langley is looking for an individual with outstanding customer service and administrative skills to join our Clerical Casual Pool. Applications are invited for a Casual Clerk Typist 3 to work within various Departments such as Engineering, Development Services and Corporate Services. Casual assignments involve varied work providing coverage for staff absences and working on special projects as the needs arise.  It is anticipated that most assignments will be during the period May through September with limited assignments during the remainder of the year. The successful applicant may also be assigned work in areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, property tax collection and processing permit and license applications should they demonstrate the necessary skills and qualifications in one or more of these areas.

RATE OF PAY*:      Pay Grade 12:  $26.90 to $27.95 per hour (C.U.P.E. 2019 rates)
HOURS OF WORK:    Up to 35 hours per week (Generally, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
*May vary according to assigned work.  
Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid vacation.

Applicants must be available Monday to Friday.   Completion of grade 12 supplemented by business courses and several years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired.  Additionally, experience in local government and familiarity with municipal services and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tempest, Unit 4 (Agresso), eDocs DM Document Management Systems and Active Net are desired.   R.C.M.P Secure Reliability Clearance or the willingness to obtain one would be an asset (required for assignments in Langley Youth and Family Services).   Details of the positions and the requirements can be found in the job description.

Engineering Operations Division

Applications are invited for Engineering Workers for Temporary Full-Time and Casual assignments in the Engineering Operations Division of the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. These assignments are anticipated to begin as early as March 2021 and end late September 2021, subject to operational requirements. The successful candidates will perform a variety of manual duties including water, sewer and storm installation, repair and maintenance.  Road construction and maintenance tasks and other physical duties may also be assigned. 

RATE OF PAY:              $29.08 per hour (2019 C.U.P.E. rate)

HOURS OF WORK:     Temporary Full- Time hours are 40 hours per week 
                                      Casual hours are up to 40 hours per week 

Temporary Full-Time employees are paid 6% of their regular earnings in lieu of paid vacation and become eligible for benefits after 6 months of continuous employment.  Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all benefits.   

The successful candidates will have Grade 12 plus experience in general construction and maintenance. Details of the position and its requirements can be found in the job description.

You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5 year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date. To obtain a copy of your Personal Driving Record, please contact ICBC directly or the driving authority where you reside. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a Police Information Check before commencing employment.

Langley City has an opportunity available for 2 Acting Captains.   

Applicants must have attained a rank of Fourth Year Firefighter with the City of Langley and have completed a recognized Company Officer Program or an equivalent recognized standard (such as NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I) as determined by the Fire Chief.

HOURS OF WORK:    An average of 42 hours per week (Monday to Sunday)
RATE OF PAY:          $56.70 per hour (2019 I.A.F.F. rate) when acting.
