LANGLEY CITY, BC – During the upcoming Local Government Election, eligible Langley City voters will have the opportunity to share their views on two proposed community facility expansions through a non-binding Community Opinion Vote.
Voters will receive a separate ballot at the election (and during advance voting days) asking whether they support Langley City continuing planning work on:
- Expanding Timms Community Centre, combined with a new Performing Arts and Cultural Centre
- Expanding Al Anderson Pool to provide year-round access
The City is seeking input because both proposed expansions would be long-term investments with property tax implications. The Community Opinion Vote will help the incoming Council understand community priorities before deciding whether to continue planning, seek other funding sources, or take any further steps.
"This is an opportunity for voters to review what is being considered and provide input through the election process," said Mayor Nathan Pachal. "We encourage eligible voters to learn about the proposals and participate this fall to give Council valuable community feedback to consider before any future decisions are made."
The Community Opinion Vote is non-binding and is intended solely to gather public feedback. It is not a referendum and does not authorize construction of either project.
After further planning, if a future Council decides to move forward with one or both proposed projects and borrowing is required, a separate binding approval process would be required before a project could proceed. This approval would be obtained through either an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) or a referendum.
The Community Opinion Vote follows several phases of engagement through the Invest Langley City initiative since 2025, including in-person and online feedback opportunities. That input helped council understand feedback from residents and shape the questions being presented to voters.
General Voting Day is Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The results of the Community Opinion Vote will be publicly released following the election and will help inform Council's consideration of future planning for both projects.
