Housing Needs Report

The City of Langley's Housing Needs Report was released in February 2021 and updated in December 2024. It includes data and information that helps identify the City's housing needs now and into the future. This report is used to inform plans and policies, such as the Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan (OCP). All local governments are required by the Province of British Columbia to create a Housing Needs Report and update it regularly: the next Housing Needs Report will be prepared by the end of 2028.

Housing Target

In July 2024, the Province of British Columbia put in place a housing target for the City of Langley - one of 30 BC municipalities with a Provincial housing target at the time the order was issued. This target is in effect for 5 years and sets out a total number of homes that must be completed in Langley City between August 1, 2024 and July 31, 2029. It is also broken down into cumulative annual targets to track progress toward the total 5-year target, as well as housing unit guidelines that include a more detailed breakdown of the housing target by unit size, tenure, and affordability, but are provided for information only and do not form part of the required target.

Langley City's total housing target is 1,844 net new homes (completions minus demolitions). The City will prepare progress reports 6 and 12 months after the order's effective date, and then annually after that. The following tables lay out the cumulative annual targets and associated progress reports, along with the housing unit guidelines:
