A New Standard for Citizen Engagement
The Citizens’ Assembly allows residents to directly influence Langley City's future and shape its policies. The Assembly will focus on challenges related to safety, housing and local services. The goal is to find solutions based on what matters most to Langley City residents.
Once the Assembly develops its recommendations, they will be shared with Langley City Council for review.
The application process is open until February 7 and is simple and easy. It should take less than a minute to complete.

What is the Citizens' Assembly?

How are participants selected for the Assembly?
Residents are randomly selected through a process designed to ensure the group reflects the current makeup of Langley City. This will include factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, and other community demographics, ensuring all voices are considered.
What will the Assembly focus on?
The Citizens’ Assembly will focus on challenges related to safety, housing, and local services. The goal is to find solutions based on what matters most to Langley City residents. This process will bring the community together to share ideas, learn about challenges, and create solutions that improve safety and well-being.
When will the Assembly start and how long will it last?
The Assembly will begin in March and meet regularly for several months, mostly on weekends. Once finalized, the meeting schedule will be shared through City updates.
Where will the meetings take place?
Meetings will take place at different locations around Langley City. The City will ensure the locations are accessible and will share details ahead of time.
What is the timeline for the Assembly to share its recommendations?
The Assembly will meet from March to June 2025. During this time, participants will discuss key issues and develop recommendations. The City will share updates as the process moves forward.
What happens if I miss a public meeting?
If you miss a meeting, you can still read summaries, watch video recordings (if available), or give feedback through surveys shared by the City.
How can I get involved if I’m not available to participate or selected to take part as a member of the Assembly?
If you are not able to take part directly in the Assembly, you can still share your feedback. The City will host public meetings, surveys, and provide regular updates to keep everyone informed. You can also sign up for email updates to stay involved throughout the process.
How will participants be notified?
Those randomly selected to take part in the Citizens' Assembly will be contacted by email or phone. They will get information about the Assembly’s purpose, how it works, and their role in the process.
How can I find out what’s being discussed at meetings?
The City will share summaries and key points from each meeting on its website, social media, through email. You can sign up for email updates and learn about other ways to participate here.
How will the recommendations from the Assembly be used?
Once the Assembly develops its recommendations, they will be shared with Langley City Council for review. These recommendations will help guide future policies and initiatives aimed at improving community safety and addressing the concerns of residents.
What happens after the Assembly makes its recommendations?
Langley City Council will review the recommendations and determine how to use them in future municipal policies and programs. City Council will publicly respond to each recommendation, explaining what actions will be taken, and provide updates to the public.
What happens with the recommendations once they are shared with City Council?
