Nexus of Community – Our Vision for the Future

Nexus of Community – Our Vision for the Future

On July 23, 2018, Langley City Mayor and Council unanimously adopted a bold vision called Nexus of Community to guide how our city grows and develops over the next 25+ years. Today, this vision is even stronger and more important.

Official Community Plan & Zoning Bylaw Updates

Langley City is growing, and the Nexus of Community vision aspires to shape our community into a more walkable, livable, and sustainable place for all residents! To do this, we created a new Official Community Plan (OCP), which was adopted on November 22, 2021.

The City is also now working on a new Zoning Bylaw. These new tools will help guide the way Langley City will look in the future, including the homes we build, the streets we travel on, the parks we play in, and the neighbourhoods we live in.

A vital location with unprecedented opportunity

SkyTrain is coming to Langley City by the end of 2029. This will be a game-changer for our community, bringing new opportunities, energy, and connections. While SkyTrain is the catalyst, the heart of our vision is people: our community today and everyone who will join us in the future.

Building on our strengths

Nexus of Community builds on what makes Langley City special:
  • A compact, walkable design
  • Natural beauty
  • Thriving businesses that create jobs

We aim to grow in a bold, sustainable, and community-focused way.

Four cornerstones & guiding principles

The strategy is built around four key cornerstones:
  1. Community: This place is your home
  2. Connected: We link growing regions and new ideas
  3. Experiences: We are the destination
  4. Integration: Everything you need is here
Each cornerstone includes plans, policies, and actions to bring this vision to life.
To make our vision a reality, we will stay true to three guiding principles:

1. Community Engagement
We will work closely with residents, businesses, and community partners, and coordinate with First Nations and other levels of government as appropriate. Through engagement and collaboration, we will refine ideas and bring them to life together. We invite everyone to learn about and provide feedback on priorities for the next 10 years.

2. Communication
Transparency matters. Progress updates will be a regular item on Council agendas, including an annual report to show what we have achieved and what’s next.

3. Risk Management and Ongoing Evaluation
Our plans are bold and long-term. We are committed to implementation and to flexibility. We will adapt based on data, analysis, and new information to keep the vision strong.

As our community continues to grow, Langley City has recognized the need for major capital investments to be guided by community input.
