How to use the cart
- Place the cart at the curb by 7:30 AM on your scheduled garbage collection day.
- Carts should be placed with the wheels facing your house and the lid facing the street.
- Leave at least 1 metre (3 feet) of space between each bin and any obstacles such as other carts, parked cars, poles, fences, or mailboxes.
- Ensure the lid is fully closed; overfilled carts may not be collected.
- Do not block sidewalks or driveways.
Store the carts within your property boundary — in your garage, backyard, side of your home or front yard. Do not store them on the road or sidewalk.
What's not allowed in your garbage cart
Carts with over 5% banned materials will be charged a fee
If your garbage cart contains more than 5% banned or recyclable materials, a 50% surcharge (an extra $32.50 per tonne) will be added to the disposal cost. This fee applies to the entire load and will be billed back to you.
Pet waste can be placed in your garbage cart
Pet waste can harm water systems and the environment. It’s not fertilizer and doesn’t break down safely in nature. To keep our parks and environment clean, please:
- Always pick up after your pet
- Use a bag to collect the waste and tie it securely
- Place your pet waste in your garbage cart or in the dog-waste bins at dog parks
