What’s changing?
Langley City is modernizing waste collection to improve efficiency, cleanliness, and sustainability with new automated collection bins. These bins are designed to make waste disposal cleaner and more efficient. The new bins will be collected by an electric truck, reflecting the City’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The new bins will also be tagged with Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to help track the collection of bins to optimize routes and ensure all bins are picked up.
The new standard 240L bins are larger than a standardized 80L garbage bin allowing for more convenient waste disposal. With the new wheels, it will make for easier moving for the resident.
Benefits of the new system
Ease of use: the bins have wheels at the bottom to help with moving them
Less landfill waste: better sorting will divert organics from the landfill.
Cleaner streets: Sealed bins reduce litter and animals from getting into the bins. The standardized bins will also look nicer.
Healthy environment: The new bins will be picked by an electric truck reducing pollution
Efficient service: automated service means more efficient pick ups, saving the city money
