About the Artist - Kate Major
Is a self-taught artist who started drawing and painting at a very young age. She received encouragement and ideas from her Dad who was a woodcarver. She is a past member of the Association of Atlantic Amateur Artists, Mississauga Artist Workshop, The Abbotsford Palette Club and The Port Kells Artists. After years working with oils, her medium of choice for the past 20 years is pastels. Now she is exploring and enjoying acrylics.
Over the span of her painting activity, she has painted as K. Cuvelier as well as K. Casey and better known by fellow art group members as Kathy. These days it’s Kate Casey Major. (K C Major)
She is a past member of the Association of Atlantic Amateur Artists, Mississauga Artist Workshop, The Abbotsford Palette Club and The Port Kells Artists. Kate has an eclectic interest and is drawn to anything that catches her interest. Among them are old buildings, vintage cars and anything found sitting and forgotten. These have been featured in many of her recent works. Sometimes these are challenging but interesting to her artist eye. Painting the ocean and the ever-changing flow of motion in the waves is her go-to subject that she finds relaxing and calm.
Kate has painted pictures for many people - portraits of children, cherished pets, barns, boats and old vehicles. A neighbor and friend asked her to paint 3 different fishing boats that were in his family. Very detailed but rewarding when the friend really liked them.
As a member of Community Theatre, she has painted props and backdrops for Surrey Little Theatre, Langley Payers and Langley Footlight Players.
Kate is a present member and past director of the Langley Arts Council and has displayed her work in the Incognito Shows, Open Calls for themed shows, and The BC Juried Show. While a member of the Abbotsford Arts Council she displayed her work in a solo show.
Now retired and living in a retirement community where she an active member of their Art Group and is creating more than ever.
