What will the Assembly focus on? 

The Citizens’ Assembly will focus on challenges related to community safety, well-being, and resiliency, including how we stay connected, safe, and prepared. The goal is to find solutions based on what matters most to Langley City residents and business owners. This process will bring the community together to share ideas, learn about challenges, and create solutions that improve safety and well-being. 

How can the public provide their feedback on community safety?

The public will be able to provide their feedback on community safety to the Citizens’ Assembly at the Community Dialogue event on June 11, 2025, at Langley City Hall Council Chambers. This is a public meeting where residents can provide feedback on what the Assembly is proposing before its recommendations are finalized. Also, an online survey is available for resident feedback. 

How were participants selected for the Assembly? 

Residents were randomly selected for the Citizens’ Assembly through a process designed to ensure that the group would reflect the current makeup of Langley City. The factors considered in their selection included age, gender, ethnicity, and community demographics. 

Why was the Langley City Citizens' Assembly created? 

The Citizens’ Assembly was created to involve Langley City residents more directly in finding potential solutions to address issues affecting their community. The Assembly will draw on ideas that come from Langley residents themselves and play a central role in shaping City policies. The Assembly’s involvement is an important part of Langley City’s strategic priorities. 

Who participates in the Citizens' Assembly? 

The Citizens’ Assembly is a diverse group of people comprised of residents, representatives from local businesses, non-profits, and Indigenous communities whose decisions reflect the values and priorities of the community. 

How is the work of the Citizens’ Assembly strengthened? 

The Assembly’s work is strengthened through active participation with:

• Research design teams: community members and experts who gather data to support decisions (e.g., Village Café Series events)
• Expert groups: who focus on housing, safety, and health, including first responders, police, people with lived experience, businesses, and non-profits
• Solution Labs: small groups where Assembly members, design teams, and experts test ideas and explore solutions. 

What will happen with the decisions that are being made by the Assembly?

The Assembly will present its draft recommendations at an upcoming community forum in June for further discussion and to discuss next steps.

In Fall 2025, Assembly Members will present their final report with recommendations to present directly to Langley City Council, which will be further informed with expert panel outcomes, design team process, and Village Cafe series insights. 

What happens next with the Citizens’ Assembly’s recommendations?

Langley City Council will review the recommendations from the Citizens’ Assembly. If approved, they will help shape the final version of Langley City’s Community Safety, Wellbeing, and Resiliency Policy.

Once the policy is approved, it will be put into action through activities that involve working together with community partners.

Can the public give feedback to Citizens’ Assembly at the Community Forum? 

The public will be able to respond to the recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly at the Community Forum in June 2025, a public meeting where residents can provide feedback on what the Assembly is proposing before its recommendations are finalized. 

Is the Citizens’ Assembly meeting now? 

The Assembly is meeting on weekends for five sessions, starting in March and ending in June 2025. All Assembly meetings will take place in City Council chambers. The City has ensured the locations are accessible and will share details ahead of time. It is expected to present its recommendations in October 2025.

The City is sharing updates on the progress made by the Citizens’ Assembly online through its social media channels and the Monthly eNewsletter as the process moves forward. How can I get more involved if I am not a member of the Citizens’ Assembly? 

Even if you are not a Citizens’ Assembly, you can still follow its progress and share your feedback. The City will host public meetings, events, surveys, and provide regular updates to keep everyone informed. We encourage you to sign up for email updates.
