Village Café Series Events

Over 100 people joined us at our Asian Heritage Month Village Cafe to celebrate the richness of Asian cultures and the connections that unite our community.

Key topics discussed included:

• Experiences of moving to Canada and living in Langley City
• Balancing cultural integration with staying connected to one’s roots
• Wellness, community safety, and supporting the Langley City Citizens' Assembly
• The importance of cultural spaces and celebrations
• Addressing social isolation
• Creating more community-building and intercultural events

Over 200 residents joined Langley City’s Mental Health Awareness Month event at Timms Community Centre for an afternoon of connection, learning, and dialogue.

Key themes discussed:
- Enhancing access to mental health resources
- Reducing stigma and promoting community-wide wellness
- Strengthening collaboration between residents and service providers
- Creating inclusive spaces that foster belonging and resilience

Langley City's first Sikh Heritage Month event this past weekend was well attended! Residents across Langley came together to celebrate the rich Sikh culture, celebrate diversity, and acknowledge the contributions of Langley City Sikh pioneer families.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Village Cafe Series on National Indigenous Languages Day!

Our community came together to celebrate the power of Indigenous languages and highlight the importance of preserving culture. Participants explored how music, storytelling, mobile apps, and films are some of the ways Indigenous communities are working to preserve their languages.

They also discussed that over 70 Indigenous languages in Canada are currently at risk—making language preservation more important than ever.

Through a panel discussion and a question and answer period, participants discussed:

• Barriers in employment and the need for change
• Black history and the legacy of leaders like James Douglas
• Biracial experience and the importance of cultural identity
• The need for public art, events, and stronger community connections
• Strong voices create more awareness, opportunities, and collaboration
