Building a safer community: Langley City’s Ongoing Commitment to Improving Community Well-Being

Date

For Immediate Release

Langley City, B.C., - Langley’s business community gathered last night to hear Mayor Nathan Pachal deliver his third State of the City Address. The evening highlighted the City’s progress around key community concerns, such as safety and laid out a future rooted in transparency and data-driven decision-making as the community continues to grow.

"In Langley City, we know that the only way we are going to create a safer community and move the needle on safety is when we engage with the community, when we listen to them, when we take their advice," said Mayor Nathan Pachal. "They are the ones that are going to help us break the status quo and challenge us to do things that are uncomfortable.”

Residents and businesses actively involved in shaping community safety policies

The Citizens’ Assembly on community safety was shared as a key City initiative, comprising 29 residents and business owners from diverse ages, backgrounds, and neighbourhoods. The Assembly is directly involved in addressing safety challenges in the community and then sharing those recommendations with Council in the Fall. This initiative empowers residents to have a direct voice in shaping policies, making Langley City safer, stronger, and more connected, where everyone can feel safe.

Leading with data-driven decision making to deliver results on what matters most

An update was provided on the City’s Key Performance Index (KPI) dashboard that is for employees but will be available to the public as well. The soon-to-launch public tool will ensure city resources are being used to drive results that matter to our community and provide transparent, measurable data on topics like community safety.

Investing in basics to improve infrastructure for a safer more connected community

The address also highlighted the City continuing to build a community that is resilient, ready for the future, and meets the needs of our growing city by strengthening basic infrastructure, such as one of the City’s largest projects—the Fraser Highway One-Way, which is on budget and on time to be complete by end of August 2025.

Moving forward, together

As Langley City continues to grow, the city remains committed to transparency while building a safer, more connected, and inclusive community.
