Langley City, B.C. — Langley City’s priorities were brought to Ottawa last week, where Langley City Council and staff met with federal leaders to support a safer, stronger, and more connected Langley City.
“By advocating for Langley City’s priorities in Ottawa, we’re helping deliver more affordable housing, create new job opportunities, and improve infrastructure for the benefit of our residents,” said Mayor Nathan Pachal. “We're committed to championing our community within the federal government.”
Exploring increased housing density near SkyTrain Station
Langley City is exploring updates to the 50-year-old airport height limitations that restrict building heights near the future Willowbrook Station. There is a need to align with provincial minimum height regulations that will also help address housing affordability while ensuring the safe operation of the Langley Regional Airport continues.
Expanding food industry to boost local job market
Langley City continues to develop its Food Tech strategy. In the current political climate, there is a need for a Canada-first food supply chain. We can create economic opportunities and well-paying jobs in Langley City, benefiting the country through collaboration with the federal government, the province, universities, and the private sector.
Securing Federal funding for transit and replacing aging infrastructure
Transit funding remains a top priority to ensure the city’s transportation network meets growing needs ahead of the Willowbrook and Langley City Centre SkyTrain Stations, which are scheduled to open in late 2029. We also need to invest in the basics, replacing aging water and sewer infrastructure to support our community -- both today and into the future.
Building a safer, stronger, more connected Langley City
These productive conversations in Ottawa are an important step in aligning federal support with Langley City’s strategic priorities. Council will continue these conversations with federal leaders to ensure our community’s voice is heard—working together to build a vibrant future for all residents and businesses.
