Hands-On, Local, and Green: Celebrate Earth Day in Langley City

Date

Langley City, B.C. — Grab your bike, bring the family, and celebrate the planet at Langley City’s 5th annual Earth Day celebration, happening Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Douglas Park.

Hosted by Langley City, in partnership with the Environmental Sustainability Committee, this free, family-friendly event brings the community together to explore hands-on ways to care for the environment and connect with nature.

With 25 interactive exhibitor booths, the event offers something for all ages, from learning about native plants, bats, and honeybees to discovering ocean conservation, pollution prevention, cycling, responsible pet waste disposal, and even creating art using plant-based inks.

Cycling to the event is encouraged. A free Bike Valet will be onsite, offering secure bike storage while you enjoy the park. Mountain Equipment Company will be on hand with bike repairs and gear advice, while HUB Cycling hosts strider bike trials for young riders, helping little cyclists get rolling.

Earth Day is also a great time to declutter responsibly. Residents can bring hard-to-recycle items for proper disposal, including electronics collected by the Electronic Recycling Association. Computers, gaming equipment, smartphones, CDs, DVDs, and more will be accepted for recycling or refurbishment (no household appliances).

Langley City will also accept expired car seats and booster seats for recycling, with donations supporting the local food bank.

Creative minds are invited to take part in the Upcycled Art Showcase. Using materials that might otherwise end up as waste, participants can display original, functional creations such as furniture, art, clothing, jewelry, or garden features. Finished pieces can be dropped off at the Douglas Spirit Square Stage between 9:00 and 10:00 am for a chance to win prizes in children, youth, and adult categories.

At 12:30 pm, green thumbs can join a hands-on Container Gardening workshop, planting and taking home a small container of herbs, flowers, or seeds. Space is limited to 25 participants and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The first 200 attendees will also receive a free Saskatoon berry seedling, perfect for planting at home.
