For Immediate Release

Event marks Langley City’s largest infrastructure project investment in decades and a renewed commitment to community connection and safety.

Langley City, BC – On Monday, September 15, Langley City officially opened the revitalized Fraser Highway One-Way on time and on budget with a ribbon-breaking ceremony at the heart of downtown. The event celebrated the completion of the $19 million infrastructure project, Langley City’s largest investment of its kind since the start of the millennium, and coincided with the City’s 70th anniversary.

The revitalization project has transformed the Fraser Highway One-Way into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly destination, featuring upgraded underground utilities, expanded walkways, new street trees and landscaping, and enhanced public gathering spaces designed with community safety, accessibility, and long-term planning in mind.

“This project is more than pavement and pipes, it’s really about people,” said Langley City Mayor Nathan Pachal. “We’ve created a space that reflects our values of sustainability, accessibility, and community pride. It’s a place where residents, businesses, and visitors can connect, celebrate, and thrive.”

The ceremony featured remarks from First Nations and Métis representatives, project partners, and a local historian. Live music and a vintage car ribbon-breaking drive-through celebrated the transformation.

Acknowledging Our Partners

Langley City gratefully acknowledges the support and collaboration of its project partners:

  • Province of British Columbia – Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs
  • BC Hydro
  • TransLink

Their contributions were instrumental in bringing this milestone project to life and helping build a safer, more connected downtown core.

Support for Local Businesses

Langley City extends its sincere thanks to downtown businesses for their patience and resilience throughout the construction period. With the revitalization now complete, businesses are open and ready to welcome the community and visitors from across Metro Vancouver into this vibrant, new space. We encourage everyone to support these businesses and come by for a visit!

Proactive business engagement

Throughout the planning and construction of the Fraser Highway One-Way project, the City took a proactive approach to public engagement, going beyond what is typical for municipal infrastructure projects. Targeted engagement sessions with property owners and businesses helped shape the streetscape design, while a monthly Business Liaison Committee, made up of local business representatives and project staff, provided a direct channel for feedback on traffic management, signage, and communications. Weekly newsletters also kept businesses informed and engaged throughout the process, helping ensure the project remained responsive to both community and business needs.

The Fraser Highway One-Way Revitalization project is a cornerstone of Langley City’s broader vision to build a safe, inclusive, and future-ready community, supported by strategic infrastructure and meaningful partnerships.
