Langley City Clarifies Misinformation and Confirms No Risk to Public Safety

Langley City is aware of a recent article circulating that contains misinformation. 

Strong commitment to public safety 

The City has continuously demonstrated its strong commitment to public safety by making significant investments in fire services, emergency management, and policing – ensuring high-quality public safety now and into the future. The citizens of the City have and will continue to be well served. 
 

Langley City meets or exceeds required firefighter staffing needs

Langley City Fire Rescue Service has always met or exceeded the operational requirements to respond to an incident without any disruption to service at any given time. Even prior to a 2024 review, the Langley City Fire Rescue Service was already in the process of hiring a total of additional nine (9) firefighters over four (4) years as approved by City Council in 2022. 
 

Ongoing investment in Fire Rescue Services 

Over the past three (3) years, Langley City Council has invested in an additional seven (7) firefighter positions and over $5.5 million to purchase three (3) fire trucks. In 2026, Council intends to hire two (2) additional firefighters.
