Langley City, B.C. – Langley City is making important investments in public safety, roads, and community services as part of its 2025 budget. These improvements will help the City prepare for future growth while keeping it a safe and welcoming place to live.
“This budget is about investing in what matters most to residents—safety, strong city services, and community connections,” said Mayor Nathan Pachal. “By focusing on emergency response, road improvements, and recreation, we’re making sure Langley City is ready for the future while maintaining the high quality of life people expect and deserve.”
Making Langley City Safer
- Improving Emergency Response: The City will add two new firefighters to address the increasing medical calls and keep the community safe.
- Strengthening Cybersecurity: A new Information Technology staff member will help continue to protect resident information and keep City Hall’s systems secure from cybercrime.
Investing in the Basics
Langley City will continue to focus on maintaining its important infrastructure, keeping the City connected:
- Improving roads and pathways: The City will increase road safety and connectivity by adding new bike lanes, walking paths, repaving roads, improving sidewalks, and upgrading traffic lights.
- Improving Water and Sewer Systems: The City will replace aging pipes to ensure residents have clean water and reliable sewer services as Langley City continues to grow.
In addition to improving roads and services, the City will continue to support key City events that create connections for the community, such as Community Day, Remembrance Day, and the Magic of Christmas.
Expanding Recreation Opportunities
Langley City is extending the pool season to provide more opportunities for residents to enjoy swim lessons, public swims, and fitness programs. Additionally, a new recreation programmer will be hired to bring more engaging cultural and heritage programs for the community.
Property Taxes and Support Programs
To support important initiatives and the City’s continued growth, Langley City is proposing a 6.7% increase in property taxes this year, still making it one of the lowest resident property tax rates in Metro Vancouver. Full details on the proposed financial plan can be found at LangleyCity.ca/2025FinancialPlan
To help residents manage their property taxes, the following programs are available:
- Property Tax Prepayment Program: Residents can make 11 monthly payments toward next year’s property taxes and earn interest.
- BC Property Tax Deferment Program: Eligible homeowners can delay their property taxes through this provincial program.
Citizens’ Assembly on Community Safety
Langley City is moving forward with a Citizens’ Assembly aimed at shaping the City’s future with a focus on safety, homelessness, and local services. The Assembly will create recommendations for City Council to review later this year. The application process for the Assembly has closed, and selected members will begin their work in March 2025.
Invest Langley City
Langley City is also launching Invest Langley City, a 10-year vision and plan that will ensure the City continues to provide great services for both residents and businesses while managing the growth of the community.
