FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Langley City, B.C. — Langley City is marking National AccessAbility Week (May 31 to June 6, 2026) by expanding accessibility supports and inclusive programs that make it easier for more residents to access services, participate in programs, and feel connected in the community.
“Accessibility is about making sure everyone feels welcome, included, and able to participate in their community,” said Kim Hilton, Director of Recreation, Culture and Community Services. “This week highlights the work we’re doing, and will continue to do, to remove barriers and create spaces, programs, and services that work for all residents.”

New accessibility supports for residents
The City is introducing new tools to make recreation spaces more inclusive and easier to navigate.
Sensory Kits: Available at Timms Community Centre, Douglas Recreation Centre, and Al Anderson Memorial Pool.
- Designed to help children and families feel more comfortable in recreation spaces
- Includes sensory items, noise-cancelling headphones, and sunglasses
- Recommended for ages 3+
- Available to borrow at customer service desks
Access ASL: The City is participating in the soft launch of Access ASL, an on-demand American Sign Language interpreting service available throughout June.
This service connects staff and residents with a live ASL interpreter by video, supporting clearer, real-time communication for Deaf community members.
How accessibility supports benefit residents across the community
Accessibility benefits everyone. Whether it’s a parent attending a program with their child, a senior navigating a facility, or someone accessing services with new or ongoing needs, removing barriers helps more people take part in everyday community life.
By expanding programming and introducing supports like sensory kits and ASL services, the City is making community spaces and services easier to access and more inclusive.
