Langley City, B.C. – Langley City Council has adopted the 2026-2030 Financial Plan, a resident and business-focused plan with a property tax increase of 5.82%. This builds on progress made over this Council term while continuing to invest in and keep affordable the services and infrastructure residents and businesses rely on every day.
The 2026 Financial Plan focuses on three main priorities:
- Enhancing Community Safety
- Expanding Recreation Opportunities
- Investing in the Basics
"A financial plan is where priorities turn into action," said Mayor Nathan Pachal. "This plan builds on the work Council has been doing throughout this term, investing in community safety, keeping our roads and facilities in good shape, and improving the services residents and businesses use every day. We are doing this while planning responsibly for our City’s future."
Enhancing Community Safety
Keeping Langley City safe is a top priority for residents. In 2026, the City will hire two more firefighters to meet growing demand and population growth, bringing the total number added over the past four years to nine.
The City will also add two police officers, to help support timely response and visible policing across the community, bringing the total number added over the past four years to five.
Expanding Recreation Opportunities
Residents will have more access to recreation this year with a longer season at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. The pool opens on April 13, extending the season by 25 days, providing more chances for lane swims, aquafit classes, swimming lessons, and public swim times.
The longer season supports health, wellness, and affordability by giving residents more opportunities to enjoy City facilities close to home.
Investing in the Basics
Reliable infrastructure is the foundation for all City services. This year, the City will continue investing in roads, utilities, parks, and other essential services to ensure services remain dependable as the community grows.
Focusing on maintenance and renewal helps reduce long-term costs and ensures residents can continue to rely on City services for years to come.
Moving Forward with Community Feedback
Council will begin acting on the big ideas coming out of work through the Citizens’ Assembly on Community Safety, ensuring residents’ ideas help guide local services and supports.
As part of Invest Langley City, residents will be asked this year to provide feedback on whether a potential aquatics centre and/or a performing arts and cultural centre, match the community’s priorities.
The 2026 Financial Plan shows Council’s commitment to balancing affordability with smart investments that keep Langley City safe, livable, and well-serviced. These decisions help ensure our City continues to be a place where residents can thrive today and in the future.
