Langley City, B.C. – Langley City is inviting residents to vote and help choose which neighbourhoods will take part first in a new initiative that helps neighbours get to know each other, share local information and resources, and organize ways to support one another during emergencies.
The vote is now open online and will help determine where the first one or two pilot neighbourhoods will launch.
“At its core, the idea is simple. It’s neighbours helping neighbours,” said Mayor Nathan Pachal. “This initiative gives residents practical ways to feel safer and more connected where they live. By starting at the neighbourhood level, we can build a stronger, more prepared community across the city.”
What This Means for Your Neighbourhood
Resilient Neighbourhood Networks will provide tools and support to help residents:
Connect with neighbours and build local contact networks
Access and share information about services, supports, and community resources
Organize neighbourhood activities and meetings
Be prepared in the event of an emergency
The initiative was recommended by the Citizens’ Assembly on Community Safety and Well-being, a group of residents from across Langley City who identified ways to help people feel safer, more supported, and more connected in their neighbourhoods.
Vote to Get Involved
Residents are encouraged to vote for the neighbourhood they would like to see participate first.
The results will help inform where the initial pilot neighbourhoods are launched, with results to be shared this summer. Even if your neighbourhood is not selected in the first phase, there will be opportunities to get involved as the initiative expands.
How to Vote
Residents can learn more about the initiative and vote online at: Letschat.Langleycity.ca/safety
Voting is open until June 16.
