The Barnsley Lifeguard Championship (featuring the Barnsley Shield) is an annual aquatic emergency response and rescue competition hosted by the Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon. The provincial event challenges lifeguards in realistic simulations, first aid, and physical fitness.
Participants compete in teams in a series of events that test critical thinking, team communication, and advanced rescue techniques. To compete, all athletes must have held a National Lifeguard (NL) certification at any point in their career.
Impact to Al Anderson Memorial Pool Programming!
- Cancelled: Length Swim, 9:00 am to 10:30 am
- Cancelled: Parent & Tot Swim, 10:30 am to 11:30 am
- During Public Swim, 1-3pm / 3:30-5:30pm / 6-8pm, the competition will have one team at a time participating in pool situations and scenarios.
- Notice: a photographer will be on-site capturing images of the event at Al Anderson Memorial Pool and the park space south of the pool.
