Description: Rome (Ashton James), an aspiring rapper, has a golden opportunity to share his work with a top record producer. But tragedy strikes as thieves break into his apartment, and steal his laptop with the only copies of his demos. With his career hanging in the balance, Rome goes on a quest across Toronto to recover his music before it’s too late.
This inspiring first feature from longtime radio host Rez Dahya won the award for Outstanding Direction in a Feature Film at the Reelworld Film Festival and went on to play at South By Southwest.
Film: Endless Cookie Directors: Seth Scriver, Peter Scriver (Cree) Year: 2025 Run Time: 97 minutes Genre: Animation, Comedy, Documentary, Drama Rated: PG
Description: Seth Scriver, living in Toronto, has always looked up to his half-brother Pete, a gifted storyteller who lives in Shamattawa, a First Nations reserve in Northern Manitoba. Using his signature psychedelic animated style, Seth brings Pete’s stories to life, intersplicing them with satirical vignettes about Canadian culture and perspectives.
Wildly imaginative and lovingly crafted over the course of nearly a decade, this unique animated documentary won the Audience Choice Award at Hot Docs in 2025 and Best Animated Film from the Toronto Film Critics Association.
Film: Universal Language Director: Mathew Rankin Year: 2024 Run Time: 89 minutes Genre: Animation, Comedy, Documentary, Drama Rated: G
Description: Set in an alternate universe where Canada’s official languages are French and Persian, this charming and surreal fable follows a triptych of seemingly unrelated stories of people navigating through a bleak Winnipeg winter. Behind layers of eclectic bizarreness lives a poignant message about the depth and importance of human connection and understanding. It’s also just genuinely hilarious.
A pitch-perfect follow up to his acclaimed debut feature The Twentieth Century, this similarly absurdist comedy won the Director’s Fortnight Audience Award at Cannes, and was Canada’s 2024 selection for Academy Award consideration.
