Recognition highlights Langley City’s approach to innovation, economic vitality, and quality of life

Langley City, B.C.— Langley City has been named one of the world’s Smart21 Communities of 2026 by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), recognizing the City’s continued focus on innovation, digital tools, and inclusive approaches that support a strong local economy and a high quality of life.

Langley City is one of 21 communities worldwide selected for this recognition and is among several Canadian communities on this year’s Smart21 list. This marks the second consecutive year Langley City has received the designation, following its 2025 recognition.

The Smart21 designation represents the semi‑finalist stage of ICF’s annual Intelligent Community of the Year Awards Program, which evaluates how communities use connectivity, innovation, workforce development, and community engagement to strengthen long‑term competitiveness and resilience.

“This recognition reflects the work we are doing to build a connected, inclusive city where people and businesses can thrive,” said Mayor Nathan Pachal. “By investing in innovation and community‑informed decision‑making, we’re supporting local businesses today while creating the conditions that attract new opportunities in the future.”

For 2026, the Smart21 communities include internationally recognized cities such as Reykjavík (Iceland), Tempe (Arizona), Parramatta (Australia), Las Rozas de Madrid (Spain), and Brightlands-Limburg (Netherlands), with Langley City selected among just 21 communities worldwide from hundreds of applicants.
