Vibrant Aerial Display at McBurney Plaza

Date

For Immediate Release

Langley City, BC –The City of Langley, in collaboration with the Downtown Langley Business Association (DLBA), is thrilled to unveil an engaging initiative designed to bring a new dash of colour and vitality to McBurney Plaza. Beginning in June, residents and visitors will be treated to a mesmerizing aerial display featuring a cascade of bright, colourful leaves.

Langley City Mayor Nathan Pachal shares the inspiration behind the concept: "Our chosen theme aims to evoke a sense of greenery and breeziness, resembling an urban forest tree canopy with a cooling effect. It aligns perfectly with our vision for public spaces in the City, particularly McBurney Plaza - a thriving hub of art and community, offering a safe, inviting place for people to sit, play, socialize, eat, study, or simply take a moment to reflect."

The vibrant aerial spectacle doesn't only add to the aesthetic appeal of the city; it also drives foot traffic to local businesses. "Acting as a vibrant magnet, the aerial displays pulls in vast numbers of people to downtown Langley, invigorating the city's core and boosting our local businesses. It attracts thousands who may not have ventured here otherwise, creating a true win-win scenario for everyone involved in this partnership with Langley City," elaborates Teri James, Executive Director of the DLBA.  James further adds that “Over 15,000 people have been using the #downtownlangley hashtag because of the aerial display, which is amazing and shows that all this effort to beautify and create interest in our downtown is so worth it.”

Mayor Pachal also highlights that the upcoming display is part of a bigger tradition: "This will be the third consecutive year of distinctive displays at McBurney Plaza. We started with colourful umbrellas, moved to vibrant ribbons, and we are now excited to present the leaf display. We remain committed to exploring other exciting aerial concepts in the future."

Local residents and visitors are warmly invited to come down, experience the display, and support local businesses. The City of Langley and DLBA are eager for everyone to witness and enjoy the fruits of this unique collaboration.

To see this year’s time-limited display, you’ll have to visit McBurney Plaza at 20518 Fraser Highway before early September.
