Langley City is positioned in a rapidly growing area strategically located in Metro Vancouver and has a vibrant community spirit and an inspiring vision of being “The Place to Be” now and in the future. Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, over 346 acres of parkland, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities.
We are seeking flexible, self-motivated, and experienced individuals to provide temporary clerical support to various divisions on an as-needed basis. Casual assignments provide coverage for employee vacations, illnesses, short-term leaves, and additional support for special projects. This is a great opportunity to explore working in a variety of departments and positions within the City.
Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may include:
• Front-line customer service
• Responding to email and telephone inquiries
• Preparing letters and reports
• Processing payments
• General office administration
RATE OF PAY: The rate of pay will vary depending on the classification of the assignment (between $31.34 and $35.51 per hour, 2024 CUPE rates). Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of all benefits and paid annual vacation. Details of each position’s requirements and their rates of pay can be found in the job descriptions. Successful candidates may be hired in one or more of the classifications depending on their related experience, skills, and departmental needs.
HOURS OF WORK: 7 hours per day up to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday). Hours and duration of assignments will vary based on operational needs and there may be breaks between placements. Applicants should have a reasonable amount of availability; preference will be given to candidates who are available for full-time assignments.
Completion of grade 12, supplemented by business courses and several years of clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. Additionally, experience in local government and familiarity with municipal services and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tempest, Unit4, and electronic document management systems would be considered an asset.
If you would like to join a team committed to building a vibrant, healthy, and safe community we invite you to apply.
The closing date is November 20, 2026.
We appreciate the interest of all applicants. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
